The area above the "dot-dash" to the "dash-dash" can be used in one of two ways. 1) folded under and sewn or 2) separate piece from thinner leather and folded as an edging as can be seen in the first photo.The rifled barrel will spin the shot. When the shot leaves the muzzle it will open the pattern at very close range. The shot will most likely be damaged to add to poor shooting. Even in a smooth bore getting a good pattern can be a difficult. Solder won't stick to the soap stone so make sure everything is well covered around the sight. Remove the clamped sight and "tin" the sight base with regular low temp plumber's solder. I have both the flint and percussion. I think the 450-550 price range is more like a value. However, the lock needs attention as the geometry of the original T/C can be improved for more reliable performance. I sent mine out to Cabin Creek Muzzleloaders to be re-worked.The load for the 45, is 115g, but actually it weighs 80.5 grain. This is 115 x 0.7, the ratio found on Western Powders website. All my loads are weighed using the 0.7 factor. What i do is weigh each charge, then pour it into the charging tubes.
